Client-Centric Collaboration

When your residential client requests modern or contemporary interiors, you need a design firm that is your equal in both vision and execution. At Reider + Co (formerly Rachel Reider Interiors), we believe in interior design that champions the architecture it inhabits and a design process that supports the successful completion of construction.

Bringing us into your project guarantees your client will receive uncompromising service and unexpectedly wonderful design results. You will receive a partner who is on top of construction documentation, communication, scheduling, and problem-solving that is always in the client's best interest. We have many strong relationships with home-building professionals throughout the Northeast and beyond in popular travel destinations.

Having designed 22 boutique hotels means we are well-versed in meeting the exacting budget requirements and deadlines demanded by that industry. We’ve applied that project management expertise to our residential projects, many of which are larger and more elaborate than some of our boutique hotels.

There are plenty of designers with pretty portfolios, but the RRI team has the technical and professional capabilities that allow them to truly understand and execute on complex custom details, making them an invaluable part of any project team. Their documentation preempted our questions and they were actually the ones driving us ahead on lead times and schedules when it is usually the other way around. If only we were lucky enough to work with them on all of our projects.

FAQs

  • When determining your total interior design investment (excluding construction costs), we consider factors such as project size, scope, complexity, and choice of materials. Our firm accepts a select number of projects per year, and most of those projects are whole houses. As such, our clients typically invest $300k and up. You can trust that every minute we spend on your project is managed with intentionality, precision, and creativity.

  • We offer two types of billing: 1) A value-based fixed fee for the design concept + a 30% procurement management fee on products, or 2) Hourly billing + a 30% procurement management fee on products. The management fee applies to trade pricing, as we share all discounts in full which range from 10-50% off MSRP. Your cost will be at or below retail but never above. We can help you to determine which of these billing structures would be most convenient for you.

  • The home design industry is still experiencing some post-pandemic supply chain slowdowns, and timelines will always depend on the size and complexity of your project. A furnishings-only project is currently running 1 year. Projects involving construction typically last 1 to 2 years.

  • We have honed our processes over nearly two decades, with the goal of making the entire experience easy and enjoyable for you. Our activities are executed over five phases: 1) DISCOVERY of your needs and preferences 2) DESIGN concept development, including specifications for custom furniture and interior architecture 3) Your APPROVAL of the concepts after you are completely satisfied 4) IMPLEMENTATION, including all ordering, shipping, and scheduling 5) INSTALLATION, when we deliver big impact in a small amount of time. We always keep you in the loop on time-sensitive issues and never place orders without your prior approval. Furthermore, you have access to online documents, timelines, and schedules that allow you insight and oversight throughout the project.

  • We describe our approach as “soft modern” and consistently win awards for both modern and contemporary design. Our focus is on clean lines, sculptural shapes, layers of texture and color, punctuated by eye-catching statement pieces. That said, each client comes to us with a unique wish list of likes and needs. Each property tells a site-specific story. Each project welcomes innovative approaches. We ensure you receive a completely original home design customized to your preferred style and taste.

  • You will be assigned a dedicated design team. As our founder and design lead, Rachel Reider oversees the design concept and furnishings selections for every Reider + Co project. So you will interact with her a lot during the Discovery and Design phases of your project. Other team members, including a senior interior designer, a project manager, and our operations director, utilize their specialized skills to command the implementation phase of your project.

  • Yes. The pandemic motivated many people to get more utility and entertainment out of their homes. So in addition to fully functioning work-from-home offices and homework rooms, we now find ourselves regularly designing “experience” spaces, such as indoor putting greens, cigar rooms, playrooms, wrapping rooms, wine rooms, home gyms, game rooms, media rooms, craft rooms, indoor spas, secret rooms, elevators, pool houses, and meditation/yoga rooms.

  • Yes. We believe the most successful “interior design” is actually a seamless integration among indoor, in-between, and outdoor spaces. This is particularly true with destination homes and vacation homes, which are sited to take advantage of a property’s attributes. We work with you to maximize outdoor living, and our clients say they find themselves using outdoor spaces all year long, even in the Northeast!

  • We have no square footage requirements; for example, we always enjoy designing smaller-footprint downtown condos. That said, our experience in boutique hotel design makes us particularly well-suited to manage whole house projects from 5,000 to 15,000 square feet.

  • Yes. We have out-of-state clients who build homes in New England, as well as Boston-area clients who have completed homes in destination spots across the country. Our team makes in-person visits at key points in your project timeline, and we are well-versed in long-distance project management.

  • We find that homes are particularly successful when our interior design firm is brought into the project early. This allows us to more easily support the project partners by collaborating early on your lifestyle needs, space planning, architectural details, and materials selections. Each specialist works independently but in concert with the others. And if you need a recommendation for another professional, we can help.

  • We enjoy surprising ourselves and you by using many one-of-a-kind items, materials, and techniques in every house we design. We design and specify both custom furniture and interior architecture, sourcing from exclusive to-the-trade showrooms and specialty suppliers. We also travel regularly to design shows and on scouting trips to find that unique adornment that perfectly suits your family.
