Reider + Co Sets Its Sights on the Loon Mountain Region

At the close of 2023, we let you in on an exciting new opportunity in the Loon Mountain region. Today, with our project manager, Jess’s help, we are sharing more about our collaboration with Century 21 Mountainside Reality as their luxury interior design referral partner in Lincoln, New Hampshire, home to Loon Mountain.

The White Mountains is experiencing a surge in growth and development, and we are thrilled to be part of this exciting transformation. As this next chapter for the Loon Mountain region unfolds, our partnership with Century 21 signifies a shared vision to create elevated spaces in the design of multigenerational destination homes. And our personal ties to this area run deep. Jess has roots in Loon, having spent many vacations at her family's second home, and it has become a treasured ski destination for Rachel and her family. So, it goes without saying that this partnership is more than a professional venture; it's a deeply personal commitment to the community, reflecting our heartfelt investment in a place that holds special significance for us.

To get some insight and perspective, we sat down with Jess to discuss what makes this region so special and what led to the decision to dive into the partnership.

what is your connection to the Loon Mountain Area?

I’ve been visiting Loon since I was two years old. In the beginning, we stayed in a rented home we shared with another family, but eventually, my parents decided to purchase a house for our family to grow up in. We would go up every weekend, so a lot of my favorite childhood memories are from Loon. Despite everyone growing up and our busy schedules now, we still spend most of the major holidays gathering as a family up there. It's a really special place for us to take a break from the stress of the city and spend time together.

Is there a memory you cherish the most?

One of my favorite memories was the sled racing competitions we used to enter with our family friends. We would create cardboard sleds with duct tape on the bottom to help speed down the mountain. Our sled never made it very far - it collapsed pretty quickly! But it was a really simple, fun family activity that we could all get in on and bond over.

What are a few of your favorite places in the area?

Our favorite restaurant to dine at is called Gypsy Cafe. The co-owner, Claire, is so kind, and she makes all the desserts. We're also big fans of Encore Thrift and Coffee Shop. My boyfriend and I love to go and search for vintage ski jackets, old sweaters, and all of the stuff that was once in our parent's closet but is now really cool. We’re also fans of the Mountainside Cafe, which is Brent Drouin’s Century 21 Mountainside Reality coffee shop. It’s right on Main Street, so it’s a great spot to people-watch.

Tell us a little about the partnership with brent and 21 century mountainside reality and how it came to fruition.

The surge in population growth within Lincoln over the past five years has been remarkable.  Lots of families are looking to purchase real estate in the area for vacation homes or a place to get away throughout the year. So when we saw that Brent was opening a design center in the heart of Lincoln, we jumped on the opportunity to offer our expertise in designing multigenerational destination homes to new families looking to build or renovate. At the time there wasn't an interior designer that people could sit down with and discuss their functional and design needs and pick out finishes, furnishing, etc.  After speaking with Brent and seeing that hole in the market, we decided we wanted to fill that gap. We all felt it made a lot of sense to explore the possibility and see where this venture would take us.

What are your thoughts on designing a ski retreat?

I think a ski home is an amazing place to get to play with textures and patterns that you might not get to use in your daily life. It could be a boucle couch or a plaid accent chair; you really feel empowered to play off the surroundings in a way that might be a little uncomfortable in your primary home. Seeing Rachel's ability to really bring out that sense of place that is so important in a second home embodies that spirit. I'm very excited to see what she and the design team are going to do up there.
