Creating a Sophisticated Suburban Retreat

Turning classic New England style homes into beautiful spaces that function for modern families requires a skilled vision. Learn how our team at Rachel Reider Interiors layered serene neutral fabrics, soft textures, and small pops of color to draw the sophistication out of this Boston home in the western suburbs.

Having purchased a classic New England shingle style home for their busy family with three young children and a puppy, our clients were seeking a calming interior aesthetic that would reflect their contemporary design taste. With a goal of creating spaces that would function well for all ages and also be suitable for frequent entertaining, Rachel Reider Interiors developed a design scheme with durable yet luxe materials, soft textures, and elevated finishes in a palette of off-white, shades of gray, and a hint of blue.

This neutral scheme proved to be the ideal backdrop for the client’s extensive art collection, allowing each piece to serve as a focal point. A sense of warmth and visual interest were added by layering metallic finishes, honed marble, crackled glass, and soft upholstery throughout. Reworked fireplaces with custom mantels completed the project, ensuring that the newly modern interiors remained in sync with the home's architecture.

All of this quality time at home lately has us rethinking our living spaces. During our well-honed design process we work closely with clients to determine how they want their rooms to function, and our plans are skillfully executed to meet those goals. While families are spending more time at home, this provides an ideal opportunity to work together on a road map for your custom design. If you are interested in seeing what Rachel Reider Interiors can do for your home, we would love to hear from you.
